1: Preparation of the chicken coop, sweeping, decking with water, cleaning with disinfectant (Th4, V rid, Farm guard etc).
Let the coop sit for more than 7 days after removing the older chickens before bringing in other chickens.
Prepare all necessary equipment for receiving new chickens in the coop at least 3 days before receiving the chicks.
Prepare a place to raise chicks, have heat sources ready before the chicks arrive (don’t skip setting them up once the chicks have arrived).
2: Food and water preparation
Make sure water and food for your chickens are always available in the coop or nearby area to make feeding the chickens easier. Dig a well or install a water storage tank and have a food storage area (don’t let rats in).
Make sure the chickens are fed at the right time and in the right amount according to the age and breed of your chicken.
3: Number of chickens in the coop.
To ensure healthy chicken growth, consider proper spacing (correct number of chickens per 1 square meter)
Example (7-8 pure layers per 1m², 3-4 hybrids and local breeds per 1m², 10 broilers per 1m²), this will help you produce chickens of uniform weight and shape, 40 CHICKENS per 1m².
4: Number of water and food containers,
Considering the type and size of containers you use, make sure all your chickens have equal access to food and water.
Example: 60-70 chicks per 1 chicken drinker for the first week then reduce to 45-50 for the next two weeks. Large feeding bowls for chicks (1 per 60-80 chicks).
Large chickens
1 large 10 litre feeder for 20-25/30 chickens
1 20-liter drinker or large Belly drinker for 50-60 chickens.
NB The number of water and food bowls should ensure that all chickens have a chance to eat during feeding and that there are no chickens roaming around due to lack of space.
